Accounting Landscape & Future ready professional

The Singapore Chapter of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) held a marquee event on 23 July 2022 at Jen Tanglin Hotel by Shangri-La Singapore featuring top dignitaries – ICAI President Dr. Debashis Mitra, Vice-President Aniket Talati, Past president CA Atul Gupta and IFAC President Alan Johnson.

The sit-down dinner event with a vibrant atmosphere was extremely well attended. The Speakers spoke eloquently on the topic, including insights on latest trends and perspectives in the accounting and finance world and captured the attention of the Singapore audience. The members were delighted with the keynote address, panel discussion and live Q&A, followed by networking with dignitaries and members.

ICAI Singapore Chapter Chairman Ramky Subramanian shared a welcome address, provided key updates on events and activities, and shared a roadmap for the rest of the year. Vice-President Somnath Adak shared updates on membership and stressed the importance of social media to grow the Chapter.

President Dr. Debashis Mitra emphasised the highest standards of Integrity, Excellence and Professionalism in Chartered Accountants. ICAI is the 2nd largest accounting body in the world with over 375,000 members and 800,000 students. It is responsible as a Regulator, Standard Setter, Examiner and Auditor. Vice-President Aniket Talati highlighted the importance of embarking on digitalisation journey with technology as a key enabler. Chartered Accountants need to (1) adapt & evolve in line with trends & expectations of the industry and of regulators and stakeholders; and (2) continuously enhance their knowledge in financial planning, data analytics, ESG, sustainability, true and correct audit techniques and adoption of technology.

IFAC President Alan Johnson mentioned how IFAC shares global best practices to more than 180 professional accounting organisations globally. He highlighted that the role of accountants in ESG is become extremely crucial. CA Atul Gupta emphasised on delimiting ourselves to grow in the new world of ABCD – Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Cyber Security and Data Analytics, where accountants will be job creators and value contributors in the growth of the World economy.
