ESG, TCFD , Carbon Net Zero & Accountants' Role

The Singapore Chapter of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) held a Speaker Series Event on 6 September 2022 featuring two expert speakers - Cherine Fok, Director and Practice Lead for Sustainability Services at KPMG Singapore and Rahul Singh, Wisdom Activator, an ESG Advisor, Mentor and Wisdom Activator.

The event started with Chairman Ramky Subramanian and Vice Chairman Somnath Adak providing key updates in relation to the ICAI Singapore Chapter including upcoming Speaker Series, Knowledge Series and Social Events, upcoming Deepavali Gala dinner on 5 November 2022 and World Congress of Accountants at Mumbai from 18 to 21 November 2022.

Speakers Rahul Singh, Wisdom Activator and Cherine Fok spoke eloquently on the topics of ESG, TCFD and Net carbon zero, including their rapid evolutions and the role of finance professionals in these areas. Rahul Singh gave a captivating overview of ESG and its various elements, emphasised the importance of basic lifestyle in ensuring sustainability and shared a roadmap to build ESG strategies. Cherine spoke about the role of finance in sustainability reporting and gave an extensive overview of TCFD framework, agenda, its importance for finance professionals and the need to upgrade skills and expertise in these areas. The audience was benefitted through their deep insights and expertise on these topics, and prcatical examples of converting impact of ESG goals into financial statements.

We thank both the speakers for taking out time and sharing their insights on these extremely relevant topics with our members. We also took the opportunity to recognise our member Dr. Nalayiram Subramanian on the launch of his e-book "Analytical Financial Accounting and Reporting for Management". We thank our members for their support and active participation.
