Budget Analysis 2023 - Singapore and India

The Singapore Chapter of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) hosted another marquee event, "Budget Analysis 2023 - Singapore and India". The event commenced with a welcome address by Chairman Ramky Subramanian.

The Annual Budget Analysis event featured an inspiring speech by the Chief Guest, The High Commissioner of India to Singapore, His Excellency, Mr. Kumaran Periasamy. He shared about the various budget related initiatives of the Government of India and emphasised the special relationship between India and Singapore. He highlighted the positive developments taking place in India, with a special focus on the Saptarshi Scheme, which aims to develop the country during this Amrit Kaal era.

Rohan Solapurkar shared a summary of the India Budget 2023. He walked us through the various changes in the existing tax regulations and highlighted their pros and cons. He also emphasized how Indian tax system has matured over the years, and many jurisdictions are now looking to learn from India.

Abhishek SHUKLA shared his insights on the Singapore Budget 2023, Moving Forward in a New Era, and spoke about the various initiatives and changes in the existing regulations. He emphasized the incentives to encourage younger families and boost donations.

Mahip Gupta, who is a subject matter expert on both India and Singapore tax, shared his insights on tax regulations and their interpretations during the panel discussion. He also painted a compelling picture of Singapore as an investment destination, highlighting that the bar is now being raised from the clouds to the moon!

The panel discussion was moderated by Abhijit Ghosh, a phenomenal conductor of the symphony. His mastery of the subject made the discussion enriching for all of us. We appreciate each of our guest speakers’ contributions to the event and their abilities to connect with the audience.

The event was also graced by the presence of special guests, including Mr. T Prabhakar (First Secretary), Jiaqing Wu (ICAEW) and Santosh Kumar, Editor of Tabla Magazine. The highlight of the evening was the networking dinner with the High Commissioner, Speakers, Guests, our members and invitees.
